Questions & Answers

Prices, booking, and finding the counter in Kulai.

What kind of restaurant is it?

A hidden Japanese-fusion omakase in a converted factory in Kulai. The format is Japanese — sushi, sashimi and a set sequence of courses chosen by the chef rather than ordered from a list. Japanese cooking sits at the centre; Western, Thai, Chinese and Peruvian technique sit around it. What is omakase?

Omakase means the meal is entrusted to the chef: the itamae sets the sequence of courses, rather than the guest ordering from a list. At DEN Culinary the counter serves six set menus this way, from a RM268++ cooked omakase to the RM1288++ DENGOKU, composed around a seasonal ingredient chosen only after you book.

How much does omakase cost at DEN Culinary?

Six menus. Cooked Food Omakase at RM268++ for seven courses, Sushi Course at RM338++ for five, DENKO 光 at RM388++ for seven, DENMU 夢 at RM588++ for seven with A5 Miyazaki wagyu as the main course, DENSETSU 伝説 at RM888++ for fifteen chef-exclusive courses, and DENGOKU 伝極 at RM1288++, where the itamae selects the seasonal ingredient and the card names no courses at all.

What does the “++” after the price mean?

It is the Malaysian convention for a price quoted before service charge and SST — both are added to the bill. Confirm the final figure when you book.

Is there a menu without raw fish?

Yes. The Cooked Food Omakase is RM268++ for seven courses — house salad, garlic miso scallop, foie gras toast, cod, engawa fried rice, wanmono and dessert.

Can I order the mini don series at the counter?

Yes, at lunch — the bowls can be ordered at the counter during the lunch service. At dinner the dons accompany the omakase: each guest orders an omakase menu, with dons alongside. The series is also available through the ordering app. The seven bowls are salmon avocado don RM38, unagi don RM42, salmon ikura don RM58, engawa don RM108, negitoro otoro don RM138, A5 wagyu sukiyaki don RM188 and uni ikura don RM238.

Do any menus need to be booked in advance?

Two do, and the printed cards say so. DENSETSU 伝説 requires three days’ advance reservation; DENGOKU 伝極 requires seven. Both are composed around ingredients the itamae selects after the booking is made, which is what the lead time is for. The other four menus can be ordered on the day.

How do I book a table?

Reservations are taken online through the ordering mini app, or by phone on 012-252 9644.
